Terms of Use

Last updated: 1 November 2026

1. Scope

Apple's Standard License Agreement (EULA) governs the use of the CryptDMG app. These terms supplement it. The provider is netvalue GmbH (see Legal Notice).

2. Features

Opening and creating images up to 100 MB is free in every supported format. You can unlock larger images with a one-time in-app purchase; the app and the App Store show what is included and the price before you buy. The purchase is available on all devices with the same Apple Account and can be activated again with “Restore Purchases”.

3. Passwords and backups

We cannot recover forgotten passwords, and nobody else can. Without the right password the data in an encrypted image cannot be accessed. Always keep backups of important data in another place before you store it in an image or change an image.

4. Compatibility

CryptDMG reads and writes formats of other vendors based on public specifications. We do our best to keep images interchangeable with macOS and the respective programs but cannot guarantee this for every version and setting. APFS and HFS+ volumes are read-only; only FAT volumes are changed.

5. Lawful use

You are responsible for using CryptDMG in line with the laws of your country, including rules on encryption and on handling third-party data.

6. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are liable only for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence. We are not liable for data loss, in particular from forgotten passwords, missing backups, damaged images or device failures. See also the Disclaimer.

7. Trademarks

Apple, Mac, macOS, iPhone, iPad, APFS and Face ID are trademarks of Apple Inc. VeraCrypt is a trademark of IDRIX. TrueCrypt is a trademark of the TrueCrypt Foundation. Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation. CryptDMG is not affiliated with or endorsed by these companies.

8. Governing law

Swiss law applies. This is a translation for convenience; the German version is legally binding.
